I Made My First Affiliate Sale … By Accident
1 Comment Published September 2nd, 2007 in Affiliate MarketingI have been working on affialiate marketing, not so much to blogging and adsense kind of combination for the last 2 months. I went around on the Internet searching for some free Google Adword credit and some Yahoo advertisement network credit. I found some coupon somewhere, but it was really semi working, I had to write to Google and Yahoo a few emails before they really credit the money to me. So I will not put that here because it’s not entirely a full working coupon.
After reading an ebook called Adword Arbitrage, I was inspired to get some affiliate products up as soon as possible. I went into ClickBank and randomly picked one two affiliate products from ClickBank. It seems to be a good deal as every sale I make , I could earn 50 dollars comission. I got myself a “hop” link. The products was on insurance and cars, and house from the USA. Something about state auction. I also signed up for the affiliate program by my web hosting company. They’ve got a pretty good commision level too. For every web hosting package I sell for them, they pay me USD 65, every reseller USD 40, and every Virtual Private Server, USD 80.
Now, I spent like 3 days or nights, searching for the right keywords for these items so that I could place Adword ads (which will translate into Adsense). The keyword being used however, was going to cost about USD 10 per click (example : web hosting) . I wasn’t sure what was going on my mind, but I surely didn’t weight the cost properly. After setting up the campaign, I let it start running.
Day 1 - I see that my Adsense was being served. But there was no clicks. I presume there would be no sale either.
Day 2- I had a few clicks. 10 dollars was no more. I was starting to worry because after this USD 50 is gone, they will start charging my credit card! Gosh….
Day 3- My Google Adword play money has only USD 25 left. I had impression, I had clicks, but I had no sale. ZERO CONVERSION…
I stopped the experiment and started thinking, what did I do wrong. The first thing would probably be being too greedy. Secondly I was aiming at all the popular and products which advertisers are willing to pay a lot for your clicks.
I give up… I told myself I would come back with a new strategy.
Today is the day of my come back. Because I was pleasently surprised again! USD 80 dollar in my email from my hosting company. Saying I made a SALE!!!! YAY!!! Wherever did that come from I dont know. Maybe Google brought them to my affiliate link ? But whatever it is, let this be my wake up call, there is money to be made in Affliate Marketing and it is up to me to make it
Wish my luck!
Did you know, if you have sowed a good seed, and water it for sometime, whatever that you plan will eventually grow? But did you also know, with the Internet, many other elements “water” the same seed for you. From my last blog on Reflection, the search engine has been bringing traffic to my experimental site.
Those who have found the site useful have added the website as a link on their page. What I have learned from this is
- The name of your website matters
- The content of your website will gain competitive advantage if its unique.
- Exposure yourself passively, people will come
- Wait for the magic from search engine.
From the last I blog, the site have grown another 15 dollars in Adsense advertising revenue, without any new articles added. Imagine if I were to put some money into fix deposit, how long will it take for you to get 15 dollars? I was pleasantly surprised by this.
Reflection From The Last 3 Months
0 Comments Published June 1st, 2007 in My Internet Marketing Journey, Daily DiscoveryThis is one of those times where one sits down and think about what he has done and what he can do to make things better. I set out to be an Internet Marketer, I repeat, Internet Marketer. I have been reading and experimenting with many things. One of them is setting up a blog and writing good quality content.
For the past 6 months, around 40 articles was posted into this blog on a food introduction niche in my country. There were existing interest groups which quickly became curious about this blog. Here are my lessons learned:
- Picking a good domain name which arouses curiousity / has an impression of a certain credibility will likely earn more clicks than not
- Pick a cute avatar which you know you yourself is likely to click on to view what’s with the guy or gal behind it. My yellow bear avatar is what I mean
- Monetize your blog instantly with ready adsense / monetized theme will cut your work. Always have a ready to go blog deployment setup
- Test out your click through rate (CTR)
- Never stop learning
It has became a MUST to continue to learn things in the area of Internet Marketing everyday. This determines how you will succeed in the shortest time.
With the above test an experiment, I have made USD 5.00 from adsense. But I have gained at least USD 5,000 of lessons learned from these simple experiments.
I will continue to blog and share with you my journey to success
Make Money Off “How To Make Money” Ebook
3 Comments Published March 15th, 2007 in Guru Study, Daily Discovery, Affiliate Marketing GurusOne of the things that turn me off from marketing online or Internet Marketing a few years back was that I have found that people are mostly making money off selling ebooks on “How to Make Money”. I am not saying this kind of ebook is illegal or should be banned. But if one is selling it in order to get rich, he or she is not really being very ethical in communicating the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I suppose if you are looking at an ebook that teaches you “How to Make Money”, the first thing you would tend to assume is that the author is sharing his secrets!
Countless people have fallen into buying ebooks from authors like these who rakes from your hard earn money. What more could be more vicious is when they even offer you the resell rights to do the same.
This really pisses me off sometimes and it was that one reason which I find it unethical to be doing Internet Marketing.Of course I had the whole idea wrong. I didn’t know there were other type of affiliates other than ebook affiliates!!
However, recently I have found myself looking at the new facts again. Internet advertising spending has grossed to USD$16.8 million. I asked myself, if the Internet advertising revenue is so huge, so it means the E-commerce spending is much more than that! And NO… they can’t all be selling ebooks!!! I gather enough guts and went exploring this part of the cyberworld again - Internet Marketing.
For the first few months, I still had the same impression. But after joining some forums and getting to know some friends in the same business, I got to know more of Internet Marketing than I ever did in the last 4 years. ChiaYee has introduced me to Jon Fischer’s blog . Jon has been in Affiliate Marketing for the last 12 years and has been VERY successful. Raking off millions too…
I enjoyed his blog very much. He doesn’t bull shit you. He curses and swears , but all at the right things!!! Just last week he launched a CRUSADE to EXPOSE self proclaim gurus who Make Money Off “How To Make Money” Ebook . His first “guru” exposed is DuvetDollars
Rich Shefren Strategic Profits - Creating Momentum
0 Comments Published March 7th, 2007 in Internet Marketing Gurus, Daily Discovery10 minutes after listening to Stephen Pierce, I was still reminiscing the last session. My Yahoo notified me of a new email. Boy it was from Rich Shefren, which is an email talking about creating momentum for your Internet Marketing business. Now I have been listening to some of the google videos, YouTube videos of Rich, whom I believe to be a successful Internet Marketer. However I am not too sure about this. I thought myself I will just try to get involved and see what’s the real ball game like.

The talk started such that it was like a follow up of the previous video. After 5 minutes my brain started to tell me something familiar. Yes, I have listened to this talk before. It sound too familiar… where have I listened to this before ???
A minute later I soon realized this presentation is EXACTLY the same as the one Stephen Pierce presented through the webcast 15 minute ago!!
Well, I do believe they are on some kind of joint venture to promote a certain program or course work. Needless to say the program is soon becoming like a franchaise program which they have sold only to few top “gurus” . I get a larger picture from this, but I don’t feel I want to go to their blogs and RANT. I felt pretty sorry for those guys who commented at their blog saying how CORRECT they are, never realizing they were reading from a script. I may the the ONLY person to have found this, probably by chance. But if you are a keen reader on my blog, you will of course get to know this.
I am not saying their program is no good, but I am just saying if one is trying to sell you something, I hope they have the decency to provide a good, real, honest, from their experience marketing talk, not a canned speech written by someone and only to be read by them.
Stephen Pierce Webcast - For Your Internet Success
0 Comments Published March 7th, 2007 in Internet Marketing Gurus, Affiliate Marketing Gurus, Affiliate MarketingI have been considering whether I should be attending a seminar by Stephen Pierce for sometime
and eventually I have decided to give it ago after hearing so many good things about from Rich Schefren. Well, I am a newbie in this, I look for introduction, I look for references.
That is how I am starting out. So I am not sure about you, but this sounds good enough a recommendation. It so happen this is a WebCast that it was going to be taking place in the evening, so I said why not, it’s free! This webcast is by a local company whose website is www.srpl.net
I spend 45 minutes listening to how profound whatever Stephen said and find that I couldn’t agree more. I thought if he is going to market me something like a real course, I should probably sign up. That is my initial thought.
Well, eventually I changed my mind after listening to Rich Schefren…
